13 PhD Candidate Opportunities


We are very happy to announce the new Marie Skłodowska-Curie Action - Doctoral Network INITIATE dedicate to Climate - Tectonics interactions using Big Data and Numerical models. INITIATE brings together 5 academic beneficiaries: University of Bergen, CNRS, University of Barcelona, University of Potsdam, and Helmholtz-Centre Potsdam - German Research Centre GFZ. It also includes 13 partners from the academic world (Université Paul Sabatier Toulouse III, IFP Energies nouvelles, University of Athens), the public sector (Institut of Cartography of Catalogna, UNESCO Geoparc Orígens, The Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate), the energy industry (TotalEnergies, Repsol, Aker BP ASA, Equinor, Vulcan Energy Resources) and satellite data (GAF AG, DELPHI IMM GmbH).

We are looking for 13 doctoral candidates that will study interactions between tectonics and climate at different spatial (‪1 - 1000 km) and temporal (1 year -10 Ma) scales and how they control sediment distribution at the Earth's surface, landscape stability and associated geohazards, using numerical models informed by "big data".

Cal Poly Humboldt and the Department of Geology invites applications for a full-time, temporary Visiting Faculty appointment for academic year 2024/2025. This position is a full-time, one (1) year appointment per the Collective Bargaining Agreement (Article 12.32). Initial appointment will be for Fall 2024. Subsequent reappointment for Spring 2025 is expected but will be contingent upon satisfactory performance evaluation. The successful candidate will teach in the broad area of surface processes with expertise in one or more of the following areas: sedimentology, tectonics, engineering geology, hydrogeology, and field geology. Ideally, the successful candidate’s teaching and research expertise will complement our existing strengths in geomorphology, neotectonics, glacial geology, structural geology, geochronology, volcanology, and igneous petrology.
